Vancouver-based indie rock four-piece, Blue-J, released a cover of Harry Styles’ “Falling” on January 27, 2023. Blue-J consists of Mark Whiting, Adam Fink, Justice McLellan, and Lindsay Sjoberg.
“Falling” was originally written by Harry Styles and Thomas Hull, released on Styles’ sophomore album Fine Line, in 2019. The lead guitar on Blue-J’s track is performed by Peach Pit’s Christopher Vanderkooy. This version of the song is more rock-oriented than Styles’, and is set to a quicker pace than Styles’ rendition, working in conjunction with the singer's emotion-driven vocals.
The song’s visualizer was shot by Lester Lyons-Hookham. Lyons-Hookham is known for his work on music videos for Peach Pit- “Feeling Low (F*ckboy Blues)”, "Vickie","Shampoo Bottles” and more as well as Babe Corner’s “Bianca” music video and Blue-J’s “Both Your Hands” music video among others. The “Falling” visualizer features Whiting driving a dimly-lit car at nighttime.
Blue-J’s cover is most certainly worth a listen for both indie-rock fans, as well as fans of Harry Styles. “Falling” is the first single from the band's forthcoming album, due out later this year. You can listen to “Falling” and find all things Blue-J here.
