Wesson is a British alt-rock band. Based in Milton Keynes, the group consists of vocalist/songwriter Chris Wesson, bassist Callum, guitarist Jimmy, and drummer Dale, known for crafting a relatable combination of pop, punk, and indie music, keeping a lyrical focus on everyday life.
"We hope to inspire others to be honest with their life and not be frightened to be themselves."
To bring in the new year this month, Wesson released a new track, titled "Made Me Happy" on January 20th. "Made Me Happy" serves as proof of the group's eclectic style. The song has an indie/rock style with crunchy distorted guitar and overall vibrant instrumentation, featuring Chris Wesson's soulful vocals. The lyrical content is raw and honest, containing a theme about personal experiences, something that seems to be common in songs by Wesson. Lyrics that particularly convey the emotional tone of the song include: "What would I be doing now/If everything had worked out/The way I dreamed I guess/I wouldn't have my pain/That's what made me change my ways" and the opening verse, "I've been thinking about the days/Wondering how much I'd change/All I see are distant memories/Faces I'll never see again/Remember".
The narrator of the song is describing negative personal experiences and expressing a sense of regret over what had gone wrong. There's a possibility the lyrics are talking about romantic relationships that had failed due to the narrator, and what inspired him to change his ways is the pain he had dealt with.
While this song is not usually the type of music I'm into, I can appreciate how effectively "Made Me Happy" conveys the feeling of regret and sadness with the lyrics and vocals. It's definitely worth a listen. If you are into bands with a diverse music style and are into punk as well as indie rock, then I both recommend "Made Me Happy" as well as Wesson as a whole.
